Ingredients
- 1 cup active sourdough starter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the sourdough starter, brown sugar, molasses, and milk until combined. Add the egg and stir well.
- In another bowl, combine dry ingredients: flour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients until a dough forms.
- Cover the dough and let it rest at room temperature for about an hour.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about half an inch thick and cut out donuts using a donut cutter.
- Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat and fry each donut for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
Notes
- Make sure your sourdough starter is bubbly for best results.
- If you prefer baking over frying, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake shaped donuts in a greased pan for about 10-12 minutes.
