Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • Assorted holiday icing and sprinkles for decorating

 


Instructions

  1. Prep Dough: In a bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and baking powder. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg, vanilla, and almond extract. Gradually mix in dry ingredients.
  2. Chill Dough: Cover dough and chill for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat & Roll: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness on a floured surface. Cut into shapes using cookie cutters.
  4. Bake: Place cookies on parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for 8–10 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Cool on a wire rack.
  5. Decorate: Once cool, decorate with icing and sprinkles as desired.

 

Notes

  • For softer cookies, avoid overbaking.
