Description

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk, warmed
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • Zest of 2 lemons
  • 1/4 cup poppy seeds
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk to about 110°F (43°C) and mix with sugar and yeast in a bowl. Let sit until bubbly.
  2. Whisk in melted butter, eggs, lemon zest, and juice.
  3. In another bowl, combine flour, salt, and poppy seeds. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until fully combined.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into equal pieces. Shape into rolls and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Let rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
