Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cut into pieces for even melting
For the Banana Bread
  • 3 medium ripe bananas mashed until smooth
  • 1 cup granulated sugar can substitute with brown sugar for a richer flavor
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract pure vanilla for best flavor
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda fresh for best leavening
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt to enhance flavor
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans optional, toasted for extra flavor

Method
 

Prepare the Brown Butter
  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Stir frequently until it begins to foam and turns a golden brown color, about 5-7 minutes. This process develops a nutty flavor that enhances the banana bread.
  2. Once browned, remove from heat and let it cool slightly while you prepare the other ingredients.
Mix the Wet Ingredients
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas, granulated sugar, and the slightly cooled brown butter. Whisk together until well combined.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
Combine Dry Ingredients
  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sifted all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. This ensures even distribution of the leavening agent and salt.
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
  1. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a rubber spatula. Mix until just combined; do not overmix as this can lead to a dense bread.
  2. If using, fold in the chopped nuts at this stage.
Bake the Banana Bread
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The top should be golden brown.
Cool and Serve
  1. Once baked, remove the banana bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, use very ripe bananas as they provide more sweetness and moisture. You can also add chocolate chips for a decadent twist.
