Description

  • 1 head green cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 14 oz canned diced tomatoes
  • 16 oz tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a large pot and blanch 12 cabbage leaves for about 2 minutes until pliable. Drain and cool.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground meat, cooked rice, onion, half the diced tomatoes, salt, and pepper.
  3. Place 2 tablespoons of filling at the base of each leaf, fold sides in, and roll tightly.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread some tomato sauce on the bottom of a baking dish and arrange rolls seam-side down.
  5. Pour remaining tomato sauce over rolls and sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for about an hour. Remove foil for the last 10 minutes to crisp tops.
