Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tsp red gel food coloring
- 2 tsp green gel food coloring
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, cream together the room temperature butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour and a pinch of salt. Gradually combine this dry mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined; avoid overmixing.
- Divide the dough into two equal parts. Color one half with red gel food coloring and the other with green, kneading until colors are evenly mixed.
- Roll each colored dough into rectangles about 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface or parchment paper.
- Layer one rectangle on top of the other; roll tightly into a log shape. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the chilled log into rounds about half an inch thick and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden around the edges. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
