  • 4 cloves fresh garlic, minced

  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves (plus more for garnish)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent (about 5 minutes). Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  2. Pour in the canned tomatoes, breaking them up with a wooden spoon. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  3. Add fresh basil leaves (reserve some for garnish) and let the sauce simmer on low heat for about 30 minutes.
  4. If desired, blend the sauce with an immersion blender for a smoother texture.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed before serving over al dente spaghetti.
